Today marks world values day, an annual campaign to increase the awareness and practice of values around the world. Values are increasingly the focus of public debate and discussion, but their role in our lives and their importance are not always fully understood.

At Rothsley, we’ve decided to celebrate World values day by asking our clients what values inspired them. Here’s one of those stories.

Rahul, (name changed for confidentiality reasons) runs his families third generation manufacturing business. For Rahul, values have been key to his education and to his upbringing. “My grandfather would explain to me the importance of hard work and being honest. He said if you had both these qualities everything else would fall into place. To him they were central to the core of what his faith and his ethos believed in. My father did the same and I’m tasked with the third generation of your family to do this”

Rahul believes that one of the ways he can help instil the values of hard work through our making wealth matter campaign is by ensuring he supports other who are putting in the hard work. He’s chosen to support upcoming entrepreneurs, in particular women from under-privileged backgrounds to invest in and to help mentor.

Values guide us but more importantly as this example shows they can be our guiding principles into how we live and create impact in our lives. We see on a weekly basis many clients who just want to reconnect back to what they believed in. It’s easier for us sometimes to forget that whilst we set our compass using our values, somewhere along the way during our lives we realise we lose what we once believed would be our guiding principles for our lifetime. But at Rothsley we believe its never too late to reconnect to your values that made you great and leave a lasting impact to help others. So this world values day, maybe consider thinking back to  what values you held true when you first started out. Like Rahul, they might have been passed from generation to generation or might have been in your DNA because that makes up being you. And if  have just taken the wrong turn, we can help you bring them back on track. So enjoy world values day, and follow our Instagram for more inspiration on what values inspire you.
